The Palaszszcuk government’s controversial rental reforms
could result in rents spiking by $100 a week over the next two years as
investors desert the market, according to property research firm Propertyology.
The government proposed change would have a profound effect on
how rental properties are managed. Owners would no longer have the right to end
a tenancy at the end of the lease. In a
periodic lease at the moment, a tenant can give two weeks notice to vacant. The owner would loose the right to say no to
pets and to minor modifications.
This could lead to tenants having more say than owners in a
complex.
It is expected that owners and managers would be more careful
and take time vetting possible tenants, knowing that they can be there as long as
they like.
